1957 Gibson CF-100

Garrett Park Guitars

This guitar is in our Hall of Fame Collection and is no longer available for purchase.

For your consideration, Garrett Park Guitars presents this 1957 Gibson CF-100

This guitar was won in a card game years ago and we bought it from the lucky player's brother who has had it for over 40 years. We reset the neck, reglued the bridge and replaced the bridge plate, deepened the neck slot, replaced the first three frets, repaired a pickguard crack, crowned all the frets as well as a good buff and polish. The results are superb with great playability and crisp Gibson tone.

Built between 1950 and 1959, Gibson's CF-100 model is famous for being the first cut-away flat-top model ever produced. Essentially a dressed-up LG-2 with a pointy Florentine cut-away, the CF-100 is an attractive small-body acoustic, with a punchy mid-range, nice upper-fret access, and all the vintage vibe you could ask for. It's a fairly rare instrument and is becoming a more and more sought after model.

This example, built in 1957, features a scalloped braced top, trapezoid fingerboard inlays, crown headstock logo, and gorgeous tone. The fretboard is level, without the pronounced bump at the body joint that is fairly common with this model.

There are some older repairs worth noting: Opposite sides of the neck have been oversprayed, presumably to cover wear spots. The finish is otherwise original throughout, a strap pin was added on the heel, Original tuners have been reinstalled and look great, though a little fragile (correct replacement Klusons would be logical). There is a hairline crack on the face which does not go through the top. and also a small chip in the face of the headstock.

Comfortable round neck, 1-11/16" wide at the nut, 24.75" scale.

Gorgeous old Sunburst finish shows some lacquer checking and a few assorted dings here and there but it all looks just right.

This is a wonderful sounding '50s Gibson!

With non-original hardshell case.
