For your consideration, Garrett Park Guitars presents this exceptional 1953 Fender Telecaster Blackguard, a remarkably original example from Fender's formative years.
Bearing serial number 2126 and January '53 pencil dates, this early Telecaster embodies the simplicity, craftsmanship, and unmistakable tone that established the model as one of the most influential electric guitars ever built.
The lightweight ash body weighs just 6lb 13oz and retains its original butterscotch blonde finish, complete with beautiful natural checking and a subtle, well-earned patina. Both the body and neck feature original Tadeo Gomez pencil dates, further underscoring this guitar's authenticity and historical significance. The hardware remains impressively intact, including the original three-saddle steel bridge, single-ply black pickguard, original knobs and strap buttons, while the guitar is accompanied by its original "thermometer" case.
The neck features the substantial rounded U profile that players associate with the finest early Blackguards. Measuring .93" at the first fret and 1.04" at the twelfth with a comfortable 1.65" nut width, it delivers the full, authoritative feel that defines early-'50s Telecasters. Original frets remain in very good condition with honest wear and patina, while black fiber dot inlays, the original spaghetti waterslide decal, and original Kluson Deluxe no-line tuners complete the instrument's remarkably preserved neck.
The electronics remain original throughout, including both pickups, potentiometers, cloth-bound wiring, and the original 3-way CRL switch with vintage wiring. The pickups measure a healthy 6.50kΩ at the bridge and 6.40kΩ at the neck, delivering the articulate twang, warmth, and dynamic response that have made early Blackguards legendary among players and collectors alike.
Condition is excellent, with only below-average cosmetic wear for its age, including some buckle rash, and no cracks, breaks, or repairs. Adding another layer of desirability, this guitar was previously owned by Joe Bonamassa, making it an extraordinary opportunity for serious collectors and vintage enthusiasts.
With its exceptional originality, outstanding condition, documented provenance, and unmistakable early Telecaster character, this 1953 Fender Blackguard represents one of the finest examples of Leo Fender's pioneering solid-body design—a museum-worthy instrument that remains every bit as inspiring to play as it is to admire.
