For your consideration, Garrett Park Guitars presents this all-original 1966 Gibson ES-345, finished in its original sunburst nitrocellulose lacquer.
1966 represents a distinctive and highly collectible period for Gibson’s ES line—firmly rooted in the golden-era craftsmanship of Kalamazoo while incorporating the aesthetic and tonal refinements that define mid-’60s examples. With its laminated maple body, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, Patent Number humbuckers, and iconic split parallelogram inlays, this ES-345 captures the unmistakable elegance and sonic authority that have made these instruments enduringly desirable among players and collectors alike.
This particular guitar presents in excellent overall condition, showing below-average play-wear and a subtle pattern of light lacquer checking throughout. The original sunburst finish has aged gracefully, retaining its depth and vibrance while developing the subtle character and visual texture that only six decades of natural aging can impart. Structurally, the instrument remains exceptionally clean, with no cracks, breaks, or repairs. There is one mark on the back of the neck (pictured), likely from a capo, that is almost imperceptible when playing.
The mahogany set neck with Brazilian rosewood fingerboard features a comfortable medium C profile, measuring .85" at the first fret and .98" at the 12th. Combined with its traditional 1 9/16" nut width, the neck offers the fast, articulate feel characteristic of mid-’60s Gibsons while retaining enough depth for a substantial, confident grip. The original medium jumbo frets remain in excellent condition, and the guitar plays effortlessly up and down the neck with low action and no buzzing or dead spots.
Electronics are entirely original, anchored by a pair of Patent Number humbuckers reading 8.51kΩ (bridge) and 8.66kΩ (neck). These pickups deliver the warm, articulate low end, complex midrange bloom, and smooth yet present high frequencies that define a great mid-’60s semi-hollow. Original pots, capacitors, transitional wiring (metal braid, cloth, plastic), and switches preserve the instrument’s authenticity and dynamic response as well as the stereo wiring that ES-345s are famous for. The ABR-1 bridge and trapeze tailpiece provide excellent resonance and sustain, while the original 5-ply pickguard, gold reflector knobs, and black chickenhead selector complete the classic look.
This 1966 Gibson ES-345 represents a rare opportunity to acquire an all-original, beautifully preserved example from one of the most musically inspiring periods of Gibson production—equally suited for the serious player, discerning collector, or anyone seeking an honest, clean vintage ES with exceptional tone and feel.
Noteable players include blues legends B.B. King (who used 345s/355s before his signature "Lucille") Freddie King, George Harrison, Elvin Bishop, and now Marcus King and Joe Bonamassa.
It comes complete with its clean original Gibson hardshell case.
