For your consideration, Garrett Park Guitars presents this 1933 Gibson L-00.
Despite its uptown aesthetic, the L-00 was one of Gibson's more budget-friendly offerings when it was released in 1931: the black lacquer, for example, could be applied quickly by less-skilled employees and it easily hid imperfections in the wood. Nevertheless, early "Tuxedo" models became an enduring favorite among flattop connoisseurs, highly desirable for their tonal properties and playability as much as their look.
This L-00 from 1933 is perhaps the cleanest example we have seen in 35 years of business. Obvious play-wear is mostly limited to the back of the neck, which shows some finish loss in the cowboy-chord area. Otherwise, the guitar is cleaner than some of the Murphy Lab L-00s we have encountered. It is also in exceptional structural condition, showing no cracks or evidence of repair, which speaks to careful custodianship throughout its life. The onlu modification this L-00 has undergone is a reproduction bridge for optimal playability. This notwithstanding, it remains original down to the bridge plate and scalloped bracing.
This L-00 is accompanied by a modern hardshell case.
