1934 Martin 0-18K

For your consideration, Garrett Park Guitars presents this 1934 Martin 0-18K.

As its model number suggests, this 1934 0-18K is crafted entirely of Hawaiian koa, which not only makes for a gorgeous instrument, but yields a bright and articulate voice that works well strummed or picked. This koa model also differs from the main 0-18 line in that it was originally a Hawaiian-style guitar, featuring a tall nut and saddle that, along with a flat fingerboard, was intended for slide. 

At some point, this guitar was partially converted to Spanish-style by lowering the action with a new nut and saddle. (The flat fingerboard was left unchanged.) Despite the uncompensated saddle, the guitar intonates fairly well and shouldn't require a new bridge. Otherwise, this model retains the same slotted headstock, Grover "butterbean" tuners, bar frets, tortoise shell pickguard, and ebony bridge as its fellow 0-18s. It also features the scalloped bracing (with a forward-shifted X), chunky nut width (1.897"), and soft-V neck profile that are hallmarks of Martin's prewar golden age. These features are highly prized by aficionados.

You'll be pleased to hear that this particular example is in excellent, crack-free condition, showing only the most modest of play-wear. The only notable blemishes are both in the same area on the back of the neck: a tiny hole on the treble side of the fifth fret and an inch-long rough spot on the same side starting at the sixth fret. (Please refer to the pictures for reference.) However, these are merely cosmetic in nature and don't affect the guitar's tone or playability and have been accounted for in valuing this instrument.
