For your consideration, Garrett Park Guitars presents this 1964 Gibson Hummingbird, a soulful, road-worn example of Gibson’s iconic square-shoulder dreadnought. With its solid Sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, this mid-’60s Hummingbird delivers the warm, woody compression, focused low end, and classic Gibson shimmer that have made this model a favorite among singer-songwriters for decades.

This example is decidedly player-grade, proudly wearing the marks of a life well played. Our master luthier performed a series of essential, professional structural repairs — including addressing loose and cracked internal bracing, a fretboard extension crack, installing a proper, vintage maple laminate bridge plate sourced from a 1964 Epiphone Texan, and regluing the bridge — all executed cleanly and with an ear toward tone and longevity. The result is a structurally sound, fully stabilized vintage Hummingbird with tons of character and exceptional responsiveness.

The Hummingbird’s square-shoulder body and forward X-bracing yield the bold projection and balanced tonal profile that helped define the sound of the 1960s folk boom. Despite its cosmetic wear — dings, finish checking, and honest battle scars — this guitar plays beautifully and is set up for comfortable action and strong, lively tone. Whether strummed or fingerpicked, it offers that unmistakable Gibson warmth and presence.

Original hardware includes Kluson Deluxe tuners (with one double-line replacement on the D string), the classic adjustable ceramic saddle, plastic nut, and the distinctive Hummingbird pickguard with engraved artwork. Binding, inlays, and rosette all retain their vintage charm and exhibit the craftsmanship characteristic of mid-’60s Kalamazoo production. This instrument also features a discreet under-saddle pickup, installed using a jack at the endpin position.

This 1964 Gibson Hummingbird comes housed its original hardshell case, offering reliable protection for both stage and studio use. For players seeking a vibey, seasoned vintage Gibson with a professionally stabilized structure and rich, played-in tone, this Hummingbird is an outstanding opportunity.
