1948 Martin D-18

Martin

This guitar is in our Hall of Fame Collection and is no longer available for purchase.

For your consideration, Garrett Park Guitars presents this 1948 Martin D-18.

This early-'48 D-18 is a real stunner. All-original apart from some overspray (see below for more details) and a replaced bridge, it's 100% crack-free and overall in excellent cosmetic and structural shape. It features a lively spruce top with only modest wear (see pictures), mahogany back, sides, and neck, and a rosewood fingerboard. All of these work together with the original bridge plate, bracing, and tone bars to produce strong fundamentals and a warm, open tone that's balanced across the frequency spectrum.

As noted above, the guitar has some overspray, likely from the '60s, and even likelier done by Martin. Luckily, it's limited to the back and neck: the top shows only the original lacquer, so it retains all the resonance it's earned over the last 77 years. Whether you're a collector or player (or somewhere in between), this D-18 represents great value for the money.
