1960 Fender Super 5G4
For your consideration, Garrett Park Guitars presents this 1960 Fender Super previously owned by GE Smith.
1960 was a pivotal year for the Super. Models like tis one were the first to feature forward-facing controls, light brown tolex, and - most importantly - 5 preamp tubes to support a new "vibrato" circuit. Luckily, one thing they didn't change was the tube rectifier, helping to retain some of the tonal quality from the Super's previous, tweed iteration. The result? Iconic, sweet overdrive with tremolo so deep you could high-dive into it.
This amp is a real player-grade vintage model, just begging to be turned up again and again. The tolex has some tears and nicks throughout and, way back in 1965, someone replaced one of the original speakers with a Jensen (stamped C10Q). The original output transformer has also been replaced with a correct value Mercury magnetics unit.
If you're unfamiliar with G.E. Smith, open a new tab and pull up your favorite Hall & Oates song (we all have one, right?). Chances are, it features Smith, who played with them from 1979-85. After that, he went on to work with David Bowie, Mick Jagger, and Bob Dylan. Need we say more?
Now if you'll excuse us, it's time to put on Private Eyes...
