1942 Gibson LG-2 Banner Logo

Garrett Park Guitars

This guitar is in our Hall of Fame Collection and is no longer available for purchase.

For your consideration, Garrett Park Guitars presents this 1942 Gibson Banner Logo LG-2

1942 was the first year of production for Gibson's LG-2 and American was heavily involved in World War II after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. Though Gibson has been loathsome to share the fact, these wartime guitars were actually made by women. Some say that Banner Logo wartime Gibson's are some of the best guitars that Gibson ever made and if that is true this LG-2 is proof. Right across the headstock of the guitar, there's a little golden banner that says, 'Only a Gibson is good enough'. That banner is only on these World War II guitars, hence the name 'Banner' guitars. The banner disappeared after the men came home from war and took up their old jobs making Gibson guitars.

Introduced in 1942, the LG-2 was part of the same series as the LG-1 and LG-3 (and the later LG-0). The LG-2 is considered much more desirable than the LG-1 or LG-0 due in part to its use of x-style top bracing. Only 1942 to about 1946, the LG-2 used Gibson's "Only a Gibson is Good enough" banner logo on the headstock.

Wood Composition: Maple back and sides, Spruce top, Rosewood fingerboard

Design Elements: Dot inlays, x-bracing, 24 3/4-inch scale length, long pointed pickguard

Superlatives aside, this is one of the best Gibson acoustic guitars we have ever had the privilege of offering. It has rich deep balanced tone and it records splendidly. In very nice condition this guitar excels in every aspect of tone, playability, and sheer beauty. Comes with a modern hard shell case.
