1961 Fender Stratocaster
For your consideration, Garrett Park Guitars presents this 1961 Fender Stratocaster.
Relic'ing is great and all, but there's no custom shop in the world that can replicate mojo, which this '61 Strat has in spades. The places it's been, the music it's made... just hold this guitar and you immediately feel something else, something extraordinary, a mystery that all these scrapes and scuffs and other "blemishes" can only hint at.
What isn't a mystery? This guitar's condition. That's what happens when you get a good one: you play the heck out of it. And with this guitar, it's like no one put it down for 60 years. (I mean, part of the fretboard almost looks scalloped because it's seen so much action.) And for good reason: it's certainly among the finest-sounding pre-CBS Fenders we've ever had in our shop. These pickups are the definition of Strat-quack and chime and the C-shaped neck is comfy as anything.
It took a little work to get this guitar back in shape. When it arrived, Taras, our in-house luthier, refretted it; installed a hand-aged bone nut; replaced the original pickguard (included in the case), which was cracked; and swapped the original volume pot with a newer correct value replacement. The biggest challenge was some black paint that was brushed around the edges of the body at some point, but with much care (not to mention patience) Taras was able to cleanly remove it. The crack running from the backplate to the lower cutaway was repaired some time ago. Whoever it was, they did a good job because it's holding fast. This guitar is ready for another 60 years of play.
