For your consideration, Garrett Park Guitars presents this 1964 Fender Stratocaster — a player-grade pre-CBS example refinished in Olympic White, offering the unmistakable sound, feel, and character that make ’60s Stratocasters so enduringly sought after.
By 1964, the Stratocaster had fully matured into Fender’s flagship solidbody, representing the culmination of Leo Fender’s original design before the CBS transition that followed. Instruments from this period are prized for their Brazilian rosewood fingerboards, comfortable neck profiles, and clear, articulate pickups — features that would soon begin to change as Fender entered a new corporate era.
This particular Strat features an Olympic White nitrocellulose lacquer refinish and displays considerable, honest play-wear throughout, including heavy buckle rash, checking, and surface wear consistent with decades of use. The finish has aged attractively, with striking variation that enhances its visual depth and reinforces the guitar’s hard-earned patina. At 7lbs 8oz, it is light, well-balanced, and acoustically lively in hand.
The original 4-bolt maple neck sports a medium “C” profile (.82" at the 1st fret, .95" at the 12th), offering a familiar and inviting feel across a wide range of playing styles. The Brazilian fingerboard is inlaid with pearl dots and has been refretted with narrow tall wire, remaining in excellent condition and providing smooth, confident playability throughout the register. Period-correct details include the original transition-era headstock decal and factory Kluson Deluxe single-line tuners.
Electronics remain nearly 100% original throughout, including the full set of '64 Fender single-coils, which are widely regarded for their clarity, balance, and dynamic response. Measuring 6.28kΩ (bridge), 5.96kΩ (middle), and 5.77kΩ (neck), the pickups deliver classic Strat chime, scooped mids, and expressive neck tones with ease. Original tone pots, cloth wiring, and 3-way switch ensure an authentic vintage signal path. Only the volume pot is unoriginal.
Hardware is consistent with the period and includes the original synchronized tremolo assembly, mint-green 3-ply pickguard, classic Strat knobs, and strap buttons. A pickguard crack near the neck pickup has been professionally repaired and is fully stable, with no impact on function, playability, or tone.
This 1964 Stratocaster represents an exceptional opportunity for the discerning player seeking an authentic pre-CBS Fender with world-class tone, proven reliability, and undeniable vibe. It’s not a case queen, but a true player’s instrument — one that rewards every note with the sound and feel only a great vintage Strat can provide.
It comes complete with its original Fender hardshell case and original tremolo arm.
